Reading Journal Rubric



This is an ongoing assignment. The students are expected to read in English for about 30 minutes a day. At least once a week, they must complete a reading journal entry about what they have been reading that week. The students should refer to the rubric above when completing their journal entries. They will get one mark per trimester, which will be based on all the entries they have completed that trimester. The students have been reading short stories and practising how to write a good journal entry.

On Friday October 12th, students should turn in their first entry on what they have been reading individually.

They will then turn in their reading journals EVERY FRIDAY!

Unit 4: Children's Stories

This is a combined unit with DT and after writing the children's story, they will work on illustrating it in their DT lessons.


Special Guest


Mrs. Schmidt-Filips visited our class on Tuesday 5th March. She is a successful writer of children’s books. She showed us some of her work and shared with us her experience of becoming a published author. She also gave us hints on how to write stories that children can relate to.

Children's Stories Presentations


As a formative assessment, each student in grade 7 had to choose a children's book aimed at 5-6 year-olds and analyse it in terms of plot, characters, message and literary tools used. Most of the students gave their presentations on Wednesday 6th March.
