MYP 3

Reading Journal
In order to meet the following objective:

Students begin to express an informed personal response to literary and non-literary texts and demonstrate the ability to approach age appropriate works independently,

the MYP 3 students will be keeping a weekly reading log. They are expected to read frequently - the recommendation is about 45 minutes a day - and to keep a reading log which they will turn in every Thursday throughout the whole year. Each trimester they will receive a grade for this task which is based on the journal entries they have written throughout that trimester.

In order to complete this task effectively, they need to write a clear and concise summary of their reading, give a personal response and provide evidence to support their opinions, make predictions about what will happen next and make connections with other books they have read or with their own lives and experiences. I will guide the students through this process and give feedback for all their entries.

Logo Presentation

As you all know, WIS is celebrating its 10th Birthday this year. To honour this occasion, the school is running a Give a Birthday Book campaign. To go along with this campaign, we have opened a competition to design a logo, which will be put on the stickers that go on the spines and inside all the donated books.
The MYP 3 students used their knowledge of logo design to put together a presentation to teach the rest of the school the dos and don'ts of creating logos. For them the emphasis was on presentation skills and in particular on using questions to connect with and engage the audience. They were assessed according to the following rubric.

Final Summative Assessment

At our WIS Assembly on Wednesday 7th November, the grade 8s gave their marketing presentations. They had spent the previous week and a half of school designing their own chocolate product and creating a marketing campaign for it. The target market was 9 to 16 year-olds, so after the presentations, the PYP 5 and MYP 1-5 students voted for the product and campaign they thought would be most successful. There was no runaway winner, SMMACK and Trigo got 8 votes each and Munchy Bar got 7, so it was a very close contest!

Thank you to all the parents who came to support the students. It's great to have a larger and more varied audience for the student to present in front of.
